Dig Out the Emotional and Spiritual
Roots of Your Financial Problems

A few weeks ago I was running some errands. I got in my car, intending to drive to my next stop at the other end of the county. I started the engine and drove off.

20 minutes later I realized I was headed home, nowhere near my intended destination.

Have you ever done that?

You've driven that route hundreds, maybe thousands of times.
Going home is easy.
It's automatic.

So I wasn't paying attention, and I took the long way around.
It took me 20 minutes longer than it should have.

Not a big deal.

But this doesn't just happen with driving.
Sometimes the cost of being on autopilot is much higher.

Budgeting

You want to start a budget, and stick to it...
...next month.
We have a lot of unexpected expenses this month. The kids are going back to school.
Work was so busy and we didn't have time to cook.

Next month will be easier.

Big Purchases

You're tired of paying rent. You know you're wasting a lot of money.
And you've been trying to find a house.
You've looked at a bunch of them.
But there's always some kind of problem.
Always a reason why this house is not the one.

And so you keep looking.

Work-Life Balance

You said you'd quit work on time today.
Your kids aren't getting any younger.
But so many clients called. So many emails.
I'll just clear a few more things from my todo list.
15 minutes won't make a difference.

Two hours later you're still at your desk.

Job Satisfaction

You wake up dreading another day at that job.
But you get up and go anyway.
It's just what you do.
It's familiar. It's automatic.

It doesn't require any thought.

New Adventures

You want to write that book, or take that course, or start making that thing.
But today you're just too tired to start.
A bunch of stuff came up at work and you just don't have the energy today.
Tomorrow will be better. Or this weekend...

...but it never happens.

Why is change so hard?

Because you have good reasons for what you do.
As much as some habits frustrate you, they serve, or once served, a purpose.

  • Maybe they helped you adapt to the strange culture you grew up in.
  • Maybe they earned the admiration of your friends or family.
  • Maybe they ensured you would never grow up to be like your dad.
  • Maybe they gave you a shot of dopamine.
  • Maybe they helped you escape, even for a few hours, a suffocating depression.
  • Maybe they gave you a sense of control in a chaotic situation.

The problem is, you have no idea.
The reason for that habit is buried deep in your past.

None of it was conscious. That behavior worked for you. It served a purpose.
It became a habit.

And so you keep doing the same thing over and over again.
Even though you know it no longer works in your current circumstances.

It no longer serves you.
But you just keep doing it.
Until...eventually...something breaks.

Those who don't understand History are doomed to repeat its mistakes

We think this means History with a capital H. The big stuff.
But you also have a history.

  • Do you understand your personal history?
  • Do you understand your family's history?
  • Do you understand the history of your culture and society?

Those forces have shaped you into who you are. You can't change who you are by

  • Working harder
  • Reading another self-help book
  • Getting a promotion
  • Escaping into TV or video games

You can't change WHO you are by DOING more

praying financial peace

Stop.

Stop moving.

Stop rushing.

Stop being busy.

Take a deep breath.

There's another way

You're here for a reason.
There is work you were planned for.
Work only you can do.
Work that will bring you not just happiness, but joy.

"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."
Ephesians 2:10

But if you keep on living an unexamined life, operating on autopilot, you'll never find your REAL work.

I know what it's like to make the same mistake over and over again. At various times in my life, I've struggled with...

  • Workaholism
  • Career indecision
  • Greed and stinginess
  • Guilt about making good money
  • Frustration about making too little money
  • Anxiety about bills (especially medical)
  • What I eventually realized is that every single one of these problems was SELF-INFLICTED.

I want to help you overcome financial self-sabotage

Right now there are probably 2-3 small unquestioned habits that cause 80% of your money problems. Little things you don't even notice, which operate at a subconscious level.

    Note what I'm NOT saying:
I'm not saying you are ignorant of the effects, the symptoms.
Guilt, shame, underearning, too much month and too little money, arguments about money, living below your God-given potential...
...you're all too aware of the symptoms.

But the causes, the invisible beliefs and habits beneath the symptoms...
    ...you don't notice those.
They operate at a subconscious level.

Like that mental software program that sent me home, even though my conscious intention was to end run my next errand.

You have a vision for what your life could be.
You have a destination in mind.
    You have goals.

But you aren't there because the conscious goal is smashing up against more powerful subconscious programs. Many of which were planted when you were very, very young.

Those programs have been making furrows in your brain, heart, and muscle memory for decades. For so long that you don't even know they are there.

How far back do you remember?

    furrows money coaching

    5 years old? 4? Maybe even 3?

It doesn't matter. Some of your patterns are so old, you have literally ZERO! memories of a time when they weren't there.

They are that deeply ingrained into your identity.

No wonder you can't see them.
    They really aren't your fault.
You were a kid when they started. Powerless and unaware.

    But now you're an adult.

At some point...in your 20s?...30s?...40s?...at some point the excuses run out.
Because now you can choose to deal with that stuff.

And in doing so you will avoid passing them down to your own children.
You will stop the generational spread of those patterns.

You will leave your kids, and their kids, and their kids, a much better inheritance.
    A new legacy.

I want to help you do that.

I've been obsessed with these kinds of questions my whole life

    • I grew up in a farming/factory town in the Midwest whose glory days were long gone.
    • I grew up in a spiritually-anemic church culture, a pale shadow of the church described in the Bible.
    • I grew up on a piece of land that found its way into the family by a series of very unlikely events.
    • I grew up asking why I was born with gifts that isolated me from most of my peers

At some level it doesn't even matter whether our circumstances are good or bad.
We build up compensation patterns connected to our darkness AND our light.
Our bad luck AND our good fortune.
    Loving parents AND selfish parents.

Remember how Adam and Eve ate the fruit?
They were in paradise...and decided to take the one and only path to get kicked out.

That's a story about me, it's a story about you, it's a story about the whole human race. Everyone comes off the rails at some point, no matter how good or bad their beginning was.

And yet how does our story begin?

    paradise lost curse

So God created man in his own image,
    in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.

    Genesis 1:27

So, we were made good, and we were made for good works.
We were, and still are, made for paradise.

But at some point we lost our way,
and didn't know how to get back.

    The Curse

    And to Adam he said,
“Because you have listened to the voice of your wife
and have eaten of the tree
    of which I commanded you,
‘You shall not eat of it,’
    cursed is the ground because of you;
          in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life;
    thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you;
and you shall eat the plants of the field.

By the sweat of your face
          you shall eat bread,

till you return to the ground,
          for out of it you were taken;
    for you are dust,
and to dust you shall return.

    Genesis 3:17-19

What does this mean to you?

In some deep place in us, in society, in our oldest stories:
the curse on men is about our work, our money, and our capacity to provide.

This is why so many men feel guilt and shame about money.

    Surprised?
Yes, other men feel that too.
They just don't talk about it.

    Shame about not making enough.
Shame about not knowing how to manage what they do make.

    You probably aren't a farmer.
    But you do something.
You work for money to exchange for food, shelter, and clothing.
    (And health insurance.)

Whatever you do, there is some kind of exchange.
I work the land, and it produces food.
I clock in at work, and they put money in my bank account.

For most people, the curse is still active.
But it doesn't have to be.

Are you ready to overcome the curse?

    • Experience a sense of peace, joy, and fulfillment in your work
    • Get a sense of clarity you are on the right path
    • End the cycle of self-sabotage and begin a virtuous cycle of wisdom
    • Partner with your Creator to understand what exactly he created you for anyway
    • Find the good works he prepared beforehand for you to do
    • Spend more time with your family and friends
    • Be the man your wife respects more than anyone else
    • Be the father your children look up to and want to emulate
    • Be a voice of clarity and wisdom at your workplace
    • ...and experience the monetary rewards that naturally flow from that
    • Do such great work that your clients can't stop talking about you
    • Make more money
    • ...and distribute it with greater wisdom, grace, and generosity

It's time to overcome the curse and reclaim your birthright as a son of God.
    This is a hard path.
But so is working and earning below your potential, year...after year...after year.

    Choose your hard.

    Here's how it works

    1. Sign up for coaching

    2. Fill out your Money History

    3. Schedule your first session

When you sign up, I will email you the Money History questionnaire. This is a series of questions that will help us identify the areas that are holding you back financially. Upon returning your completed Money HIstory questionnaire to me, we will schedule your first coaching session.

We will meet over Zoom for 4 weeks. These can be in consecutive weeks, or spread out over a 60 day period. Each coaching session lasts 90 minutes.

You and I will work together to learn the lessons of your history.
Your invisible habits will become conscious.
You will unlearn the habits that no longer serve you, and reinforce the ones that do.

    My guarantee to you

IF you show up for all 4 coaching sessions and complete all assigned exercises,
THEN you will gain fresh clarity, peace, and joy in earning and managing your money.

OR ELSE I will give you a full refund, no questions asked.

I'm that confident about the process. I've seen it work for myself and many others. However, I understand that this coaching process is new to you. So I want you to have the opportunity to try it out with no risk. I don't want to keep your money unless I've helped you in a big way.

So I'm taking all the risk by offering this guarantee.
